You’re about to embark on the journey of a lifetime, and it’s up to you to make the most of it. You’ll explore new cultures, see new places, and make a ton of new friends.
OUR TOP TIPS
- Volunteer yourself for every opportunity
- Meet as many people as possible at the orientation
- Always pack a jumper or raincoat - even in summer
- Talk to us about your school holiday travel. We can offer great packages with Contiki and other tour providers. Plus, we've done it before, so we've got a few tips
- Forgot something? Head to The Warehouse, this shop has everything
- Pack your police check and the documents you may have been asked for by your host school
LEARN FROM THE MISTAKES OF OTHERS
Unfortunately, some participants have chosen to let themselves, as well as their school, their family and their referees – down by indulging in activities which ended in dismissal:
Do's
It's important you contact us in all of the following cases
- If you're homesick please get in touch with us or your fellow Gaps for some advice
- If you're having any problems at your placement please let the Country Manager know so we can keep track and support you
- If you have an accident, have to go to the doctors etc. please tell your Country Manager as you may be able to claim on insurance
Don'ts
The following actions will result in instant dismissal
- Any use of illegal drugs
- Deciding to return home early for no particular reason, and then failing to communicate or discuss that decision with anyone – your school or Letz Live
- Denying to us reasons you may not be coping or lying about occurrences at your placement - please be honest as we want to help
- Failing to declare pre-existing medical conditions that made employment untenable
WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM DISMISSED?
In the unfortunate event that you should find yourself “dismissed” by your host school, we ask that you please contact us straight away. We will not be able to find an alternative position at another school but we will be here to help you with your next steps. Depending on your visa you may be required to return to your home country.
WE WISH YOU EVERY SUCCESS
Remember you have chosen to undertake a position of employment that terminates in either July or December. This is a firm commitment – not an “I’ll see if I like it” situation. If you you have any problems, please consult us before you make any rash decisions – there are few situations that cannot be resolved by good communication. We are always here to help and support you.
OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU
We always aim to visit our Gappies throughout the year. This gives us the chance to chat with both the Gap Assistant and the school to ensure the ongoing mutual benefit of the program.
These visits will be made by the Letz Live team. They are very familiar with the ins and outs of a Gap Year placement and enjoy meeting and catching with our participants.
